Commissioned Projects, Hartley’s Jelly Social Content.

I try not to play favourites, but my client Aduro Communications is pretty awesome. And our first project together, for Hartley’s Jelly, was a sweet (but calorie conscious) way to kick off what has grown to be an incredible working relationship. We have continued to nail projects together, including commissions for Cono Sur Wine and Teapigs.

I was thrilled to add Hartley’s, another long-standing and well-known brand to my portfolio. Especially because we are an extremely well-paired combo; my signature colourful compositions with an equally colourful and identifiable product.

Through my work with Hartley’s, I’ve been able to greatly improve my stop-motion work which ultimately began with our first project together. By refining my process I have cut down on the amount of editing required (which ultimately means cleaner, more impactful outcomes with greater flexibility around amends and feedback) and developed the complexity of the set-ups and the motion they portray. I love talking about this process, and I harp on about it in more detail here.

Throughout our numerous projects together so far, I’ve slowly expanded my photoshoot concepts to include larger and more complex set-ups whilst maintaining the vibrant colours and impactful minimalism I was first approached for. It’s been a constant effort to uphold my standard of quality as I experiment, but I am thrilled with development so far.

Wobbly is NOT the vibe.

Here’s the extra-fun part: I needed to solve the problems of shooting a semi-liquid product. The jelly product does NOT settle into a neat and consistently transparent form. Subsequently, any shot where the product is not stood upright can look less desirable. To solve this, I used a clear resin mixture and food colouring to create hard-wearing prop versions of each product variation. At some point I’ll document this process and share it; the props I created lived up to all expectations.
