Commissioned Project, TRIBE Protein Flapjacks.

I was beyond giddy with excitement when a Co-Founder of TRIBE dropped into my inbox, looking for impactful product photography of their plant-powered protein flapjacks. Because, aside from being a fantastic product for me to work with (great packaging, product, and presence), I was also an avid consumer of the brand a few years back. Long story short: I used to race in trail ultra marathons, fuelled in part by TRIBE flapjacks.

The first project came in hot and fast, because a new product launch was imminent. Subsequently, fresh content was needed ASAP! Fortunately, the client was impressed by my past work with similar brands and products, and sought me out specifically for my style. Which, I’ll admit, is always nice to hear. As a result, it made getting the photoshoot plan signed off a breeze!

Turning a Protein Flapjacks Photoshoot Into a Returning Client

Brands like TRIBE are potentially a dream client for product photographers like me. Given my personal attachment to the brand, and the pressure is on for me to nail the photoshoot and turn this unexpected commission into a returning client. SPOILER ALERT: I did it! My second project with TRIBE was initiated in the same email confirming the edits from the first. Now, I think that calls for a celebratory cup of tea, and maybe a flapjack or two…?

I’m lucky to  have a few FMCG clients on the Studio G roster such as my projects for Hartley’s Jelly. But, not many where I have the chance to focus directly on an actual food product outside of its packaging, so this new ground was hugely beneficial to my portfolio.

I was given three main fronts on which this content needed to communicate:

  • Great Taste – This could easily have posed a challenge, however, the TRIBE flapjacks look as good out of the packaging as you’d hope.
  • Natural Ingredients – The already great-looking flapjacks simply need to be styled with naturally imperfect flavour, ut indicators such as nuts, spreads and chocolate pieces to nail this aspect.
  • Strong Brand Colours – A lean on accurately depicted brand colours always leads to increased editing times, but the consistency and vibrancy it gives projects such as this makes it clear to me it is well worth it!
